Sally Chadwick loves her family, loves being in Greendale, and loves keeping busy. She has been affectionately known as Greendale’s ‘resident historian’, with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the Village she has called home since 1977. Sally’s volunteerism can be seen in the initiative that led to the Children’s Garden in Daffodil Park, held the first meeting of the Veteran’s Memorial Committee, advising on historical matters as Past President of the Greendale Historical Society, and so much more behind the scenes. As a 20+ year member of the Planning Commission, Sally’s care and attention to Greendale’s history is found throughout her contributions to the book, Design Guidelines for Your Greendale Original Home. When the gazebo of Gazebo Park was built, Sally was nominated to become the secretary of the new facility that has become a Broad Street landmark. For over 20 years, Sally also served as a member of the Village Board of Trustees, always advocating that the voice of residents be heard as part of government decision-making.
Thank you Sally, for ensuring the Village continues to be a beautiful and historically-rich community!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Have a great family – My husband and I celebrated our 54 year anniversary this year. Our son, Arin is married to a marvelous woman, Irene and they have our delightful grandson, Avery and live in Washington, D.C. Our daughter Amanda lives close to us in Sun Prairie and is an Ironman – 3 times. We love visiting them all.
Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
Am retired and loving every moment of it.
Q: Please tell us about any volunteering that you have done or currently do.
In the past, I have been President of the Greendale Jaycettes (twice), ran the Public Celebrations Committee before it was formally changed to the PCC, was secretary and keeper of the bricks on the Gazebo Committee, was president of the Greendale Historical Society, volunteered for the 50th (Secretary for this committee), 75th, and 85th Greendale Celebrations Committees, volunteered at the Welcome Center, and give tours of Greendale. Currently, volunteer at the Greendale Memorial Committee, Greendale Children’s Garden, and the Greendale Historical Society.
Q: Please tell us about any interesting or unique hobbies that you have?
Not unique, but do enjoy crafting and sewing.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in Greendale? What do you love there?
One favorite restaurant is Ricardo’s – loved it since we moved into Greendale. Love the thin crusted pizza.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Greendale?
We moved here in 1977.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Greendale?
It is Roy Reiman. He is so down to earth and has such a passion for his writing and all he does. When he gave talks, he would always have the best stories and make people laugh. He is delightful to talk to.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Love to travel and wish I could do it more. But if I could go anywhere, it would be to Disney in Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, or Tokyo. I’m a Disney lover and enjoy all things Disney.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Loved the Red Violin, never saw the ending coming. All time favorite TV show is NCIS – all of them.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Enjoy your time with your family and enjoy laughing.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Would love to visit Disneyland in a foreign country.
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
ABBA
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Greendale?
The Reiman Visitor Center. I worked there for years and loved interacting with our visitors from all over the world as well as greeting and talking to the locals who came into the center.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
My dream lunch (or supper) would be with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, or Jon Favreau – WOW, talking with any of them about their creations in science fiction would be so unreal. Would love to hear their stories. I would go to the Panther Pub because (besides the good food) the walls are filled with the story of Greendale.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Greendale?
I graduated from UW of Madison with a BA in American History – so for me the history of Greendale is special & unique.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Hopefully still in Greendale.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Love to doodle – started when I was a child, did it sporadically throughout my life, but have recently been able to devote more time to it and having a blast.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
This is also a hard question for me to answer. Just about everywhere I have traveled, there is something that takes my breath away. When we were in Rome, seeing the ruins was stunning. At Walt Disney World, watching the characters take that extra time to hug a child was beautiful. And just driving down Northway, seeing the maple trees turn to a beautiful fall color is gorgeous.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
Favorite month would probably be May when spring is happening and the shades of green are spectacular. Favorite holiday would be two of them – Halloween & Christmas. Best single day – don’t have just one, but all the dates are family oriented.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
At the former Baker’s Square restaurant on S. 76th St. – a French Silk Pie.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
It has always been my mom. She is gone, but I still feel her presence in all that I do.
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
I prefer smells with a gentle fragrance – like a rose.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, Greendale, and Laughter
