Annelise Borst is Greendale’s Tourism and Events Coordinator. Having joined us just a few short months ago, she is already making a positive impact on the community. Her background, experience, and people skills make her a valuable addition to the Village. Annelise is making notable contributions via various committees and events and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow in her position.
Thank you, Annelise, for all that you have done so far to promote the mission of the Village. We are thrilled to have you here!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————
I’m Annelise Borst – I’m the (relatively new) tourism coordinator for the village. I have a background in event marketing and a degree in hospitality and tourism management. Aside from college, I’ve lived within a 5 mile radius of my parents house in Milwaukee my entire life. I currently reside in New Berlin with my 4 year old son, who is the absolute light of my life. I love reading, animals, and making crafts.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m one of 4 kids, and I’ve lived in the Milwaukee area my entire life (save for college). My mom actually grew up in Greendale! Her maiden name is Cottrell for anyone who might have known her or her siblings.
Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?
I keep saying this, but this is honestly my dream job. I went to college in Chicago, and one time a speaker from Choose Chicago (Chicago’s destination marketing organization) came to one of my classes- I immediately knew that was what I wanted to be “when I grew up”. I live for planning and exploring, and I’m able to express myself creatively every day. My favorite part of the job is probably learning more about the village, figuring out how to market it, and getting to be a tourist myself in that sense.
Q: Please tell us about any volunteering that you have done or currently do.
I’ve been a Girl Scout for 25 years (I’m a registered alumna now), so I’ve done a lot of volunteering! I recently signed up to start volunteering with March of Dimes, and I’m very excited for that.
Q: Please tell us about any interesting or unique hobbies that you have?
Maybe a little unique because we live in a state without a professional team, but I am a HUGE hockey fan. I used to work for the Milwaukee Admirals and my dog is named after the Chicago Blackhawks captain.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Greendale?
I’ve only been here for three months, but it already feels like home. I’ve never felt so welcomed into any community like this before.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Greendale?
I work in the Welcome Center alongside Margo Kuehn, who owned Margo’s Boutique, so we get to chat a lot. I love hearing all her stories about former customers. She’s a hoot.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’ve always wanted to go on an Alaskan Cruise. It would be so neat to go to Kodiak Island, especially in April to see the whale migration.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I’m not much of a movie watcher, but I love The Office. It’s the ultimate comfort TV show for me. I watch it all the way through, time and time again.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
It will be fine, everything is fine. (I say this so frequently that someone made me a shirt that says it.)
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I am obsessed with animals – my bucket list honestly includes going to the top 15 zoos in the world. I’ve already been to one!
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Fall Out Boy. My music taste has not matured since 2006.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Greendale?
I love how involved everyone is and the small-town community vibe it has. I think my favorite thing to brag on about Greendale is the fact that it’s a true Garden Community – I didn’t realize there are only 24 in the world (according to the International Garden Cities Institute).
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Hopefully still doing this!
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m a huge trivia nerd. I am a wealth of random knowledge; I’ve won Quizmaster Trivia twice.
Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I think being at the Peak of Mount Evans in Colorado. It took my breath away, but that could have also been the altitude.
Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
I love October and Halloween. I start putting up Halloween decorations immediately after Labor Day.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My son. Being his mom is the best part of my life.
Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Sweet pea flowers. I wish they were easier to grow here!
