Dylan, please tell us about your current plans after high school. What inspired you to choose this path?
My plan after high school is to attend St. Norbert College and earn a degree in Secondary Education (mathematics). I’ve always liked the idea of being a teacher, and having great teachers, coaches, and other mentors over the past few years really helped solidify that idea. Along with becoming a teacher, I’ll be playing football at SNC.
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m the oldest of two children, with the other being my brother, Colin, who is a sophomore at Greendale High School. My mother, Julie, is a heavily involved volunteer in our community, and my father, Patrick, has lived in Greendale for the majority of his lifetime. I also have a dog, named Mac, who’s been with us for about two years.
What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in Greendale?
My family and I are big fans of Ricardo’s. My dad worked there when I was younger, and we grew up going there (they also have really good food, regardless). Joey Gerard’s is also great for a fancier night out, with a lot of great food and wonderful service.
Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Greendale?
There are too many to name, but one of the most interesting is my neighbor, John Vlaj. I’ve known him for as long as I can remember, and he is full of knowledge and experience that you don’t come across every day.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
The Outerbanks, in North Carolina. We have a large family vacation scheduled there this summer (last hoorah before my aunt and uncle, my cousin, and I move away), and that’s one of the things I’m looking forward to most before college, so I’m praying that we can still go.
What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Favorite Movie: Good Will Hunting
Favorite TV Show: Spongebob Squarepants or Friends
What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
“It’s just a number!” – Mrs. Tarnowski. This would often be used to incite laughter or calm into our class when we were faced with absurd-looking math problems.
“It’s a choice” – Coach Stoltz
“Be great” – Coach Stoltz
What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
AJR
If you could choose anyone that is alive today, and not a relative: with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where in Greendale would you meet for lunch?
JJ Watt. He seems like one of the nicest dudes in the world, and we could find a lot to talk about in football, sports, the small-town Greendale/Pewaukee life – you name it. I’d go to the Panther Pub to get a good meal and some good Greendale vibes (and likely even see people I know for an introduction).
What is your favorite thing or something unique about our Greendale?
I love the fact that I know so many people here. Because Greendale is a smaller community, you see people frequently. I grew up with involved parents which led to me getting involved, and I’ve always just been really in touch with various members of our community, and that really helps make it feel like home.
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself in Greendale, or a community similar to Greendale, where I’ll be teaching math and coaching football at the local high school.
What show are you binge watching right now?
SNL reruns on YouTube
Favorite month? Holiday? And best single day on the calendar?
Month: October
Holiday: Thanksgiving
Day: Pi Day (March 14th)
Who inspires you to be better?
My head football coaches, specifically Coach Stoltz, and my high school teachers.
If you could go back over your entire school career what is the one thing you would do different?
I would’ve gotten more involved earlier on in high school because I definitely could have found ways to make more time to do some of the activities that I did later on while still maintaining high standards.
Who or what do you miss the most right now?
School, my friends and teachers, sports, the gym, pretty much everything about normal life.
What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?
Hang out with people, either to go play football or just enjoy each other’s company.
